William Ventres, MD, MA
Institute for Studies in History, Anthropology and Archeology
University of El Salvador
Visiting Scholar, Institute for the Medical Humanities

Everyone knows that ethics is a crucial subject for health professionals. The calculus of ethical decision-making is important for students and clinicians to learn.

But…
Does this ethical calculus actually prepare physicians to engage ethically with patients? What practices might orient physicians to the ethical dimensions of each and every encounter and not only those that speak to moments of ethical conflict?

“Inviting introspection” explores the preparations needed for ethical engagement in clinical practice. After a brief introduction, we will read and comment on an article Bill has written during his stay at UTMB.
