The Medical Humanities Certificate Program can be earned by completing 11 semester credit hours, which include 5 hours in required courses and 6 hours in electives. Credits cannot be transferred from other schools, and courses cannot be waived. All courses are residential.
The two required courses are MEHU 6496-Introductory Overview of Medical Humanities, offered specifically for and limited to certificate students, and MEHU 6101-Ethics of Scientific Research.
Elective courses are:
MEHU 6375-Humanism and the Humanities (Fall only; 3 cr.)
MEHU 6379-Death & Dying Law and Ethics (Fall only; 3 cr.)
MEHU 6381-Ritual Bodies, Social Rites (Fall only; 3 cr.)
MEHU 6382- Psychoanalysis, Consciousness, and Neuroethics (Fall only; 3 cr.)
MEHU 6396-Medical Humanities Podcasts (Fall only; 3 cr.)
These elective courses are available only in the Fall 2019 semester. Each student is expected to complete the requirements of each course taken. Most courses require a substantial research paper. All classes will be offered at the IMH in Galveston.
